English H II
1. Read the Genesis Flood account (Genesis 6-9:17).
2. Read The Epic of Gilgamesh books IV-VII.
3. Answer Gilgamesh questions part 2:

1.Why is the issue of immortality to important to Gilgamesh? Does he fear death, or love life?
2.Compare the Biblical flood story to that of the epic. What are the similarities and differences? What cultural, religious, or ideological differences do you think might have affected the two stories (use examples, or a diagram)? Do you think the presence of the flood story helps prove the Biblical account, or helps show that it is simply fiction?
3.Is Gilgamesh a hero? Why? What heroic traits are valued by the ancient Assyrian culture?
4.What purpose do the dreams serve in the story?
5.Why, at the end of book six, does the story repeat an emphasis on the city, just like in the prologue? What is the point here? What is the author saying about Gilgamesh, life, and death?
6.What is the message or moral that you can gather from book seven? Why repeat the phrase, “he will not come again?”
