1. Read "Half and Half" and fill in the Mother/Daughter sheet for it. Be ready to discuss the thought questions in class. The thought questions are posted below.
2. Complete 3+ source cards and 10+ note cards and have them in class on Monday.

Why is the title of the chapter “Half and Half?” What are the two halves literally? How about figuratively? Who exhibits both these halves?
What will An-mei tell Rose after Rose reveals her divorce plans (according to Rose)? What does this say about An-mei?
Why is Rose attracted to Ted? How is this different from how she is? What is her problem? How does this partially lead to her divorce?
Does Rose believe more in Fate or Faith? How about An-mei?
What is nengkan? Why is it ironic that it is a Chinese term? What does it have to do with the American dream? Who believes in it?
Why does Rose say An-mei “lost her faith in God?” Hint: Bing. Is Rose right? How do you know? What is the significance of the way she wrote Bing’s name in the Bible?
